The Friday workshops will be conducted at the Microtel Inns & Suites located at 811 Athlone Avenue, Woodstock, ON, N4V 0B6
The Saturday workshops will be conducted at the Oxford Auditorium, Woodstock Fairgrounds, 875 Nellis Street, Woodstock, ON, N4S 4C6
Pre-Registration for workshops is required. The pre-registration deadline is Friday, October 15th. Space is limited!
Cost of workshop registration does not include admission to the event.

WOOL DYEING WITH NATURAL DYES Instructor: Linda Wallbank Schedule: Friday, October 22nd @ Microtel Inn - 9am to 12pm Cost: $25 Description: Participants will learn about the natural fiber dyeing process using plants found locally. Written instructions/handouts will be provided. This class will be of special value, yet not restricted to, people enrolled in the Master Spinner program. Limit: 12 people. |

FANCY FELT CLOGS Instructor: Joan Jones (Little Red Mitten, St. Thomas, ON) Schedule: Friday, October 22nd @ Microtel Inn - 1pm to 4pm Cost: $20 Description: Participants must be very comfortable with cast on, knit and purl. This class will guide you through the popular Fiber Trends Felt Clogs pattern. Pattern techniques including decreases & increases, wrap & turn, 3-needle bind off and other helpful hints will all be covered. The felting process will be explained so that your comfy-cozy clogs will become long-lasting footwear. Limit: 12 people. Supplies: A 24” (60cm) circular needle, a Fiber Trends Felt Clogs pattern and approx. 3 or 4 – 100gm balls of 100% wool (not super wash) worsted weight yarn. LEARN TO SPIN Instructor: Laurie Goldiuk (The Black Lamb, Port Hope, ON) Schedule: Friday, October 22nd @ Microtel Inn - 9am to 12pm, continued at 1:30pm to 3:30pm Cost: $100 (all materials included) Description: This workshop will offer instruction regarding the Selection of Fiber from four different fleece types, Fiber Preparation (skirting, sorting, washing, carding, combing), Spinning Techniques (woolen spinning, worsted spinning, semi worsted or woolen, spinning in the grease), Fiber Blending For Texture and Colour Blending. Note: Participants should bring either a spinning wheel or drop spindle with them. Limit: 10 people. |

FELTED FATHER CHRISTMAS Instructor: Pat Menary Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds 9:30am to 11am Cost: $20 (plus a $10 kit fee payable to the instructor - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: In this workshop you will create a 4” felted Father Christmas figure which may be used either as a tree ornament or parcel topper. TEMARI BALLS Instructor: Sue Moore Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 9:30am to 11am Cost: $15 (Plus $3 kit fee payable to the instructor. Extra balls available at $2.50 each - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Temari is a highly decorated embroidered ball that was traditionally given to Japanese children on New Years Day. KUMIHINO WORKSHOP Instructor: Sue Moore Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 1:30pm to 3pm Cost: $15 (Plus $2 kit fee payable to the instructor- pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Kumihino is Japanese braid making using a variety of cords and ribbons. These braids can be flat, round or hollow. They can be used as jewelry, ties or drawstrings. Limit: 15 people. |

BEGINNERS Instructor: Oxwood Hooking Artisans Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 9:30am to 11am Cost: $25 (all materials included - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Participants will learn to use new and recycled wool fabric to hook in the traditional primitive manner. Suitable for adult beginners and children over 10 years of age. Limit: 10 people. |

TECHNIQUES FOR RUG HOOKING Instructor: Oxwood Hooking Artisans Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 1:30pm to 3pm Cost: $25 (all materials included - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: This workshop is for the person who knows the process of traditional rug hooking. We will learn to shade a Maple Leaf using a swatch of multi-coloured hand dyed wool. Limit: 10 people. |

KNITTING BASICS AND BEYOND Instructor: Joan Janes (from Little Red Mitten, Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 1:30pm to 3pm Cost: $30 (Includes yarn, knitting needles and handouts - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Participants must be comfortable with “knit” and “purl”. Jane will cover several cast on methods, understanding stitch mount, fixing mistakes, increases and decreases, understanding knit fabrics, gauge/tension, and more…as questions arise. Limit: 12 people. |

MAKING CREATIVE DESIGNER

LEARN BASKET WEAVING Instructor: Wanda Haydt Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 11:30am to 1pm Cost: $20 (all materials included - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Participants will complete a Muffin Basket which incorporates the basic steps of basket weaving. SNOWMAN ORNAMENT Instructor(s): Barb Jones and Gail Colyer Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 1:30pm to 3pm Cost: $10 (Plus a $5 materials fee paid to the instructor - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Create a soft and fuzzy Snowman Ornament woven on a cardboard loom. Participants will be instructed in the loom preparation, weaving and completion of the item. Prior weaving experience is not required. WOVEN PENNY PURSE (ON A
CARDBOARD LOOM) Instructor(s): Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 11:30am to 1pm Cost: $10 (Plus a $3 materials fee paid to the instructor - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Participants will weave a small bag or change purse using the supplied materials kit. This workshop is suited to beginners and more advanced weavers who will enjoy adding their own designs & weave structures. Skills learned are readily transferable to future projects. MODULAR KNITTING Instructor(s): Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 1:30pm to 3pm Cost: $20 (Plus Optional $15 for 100gm hank of hand painted Peruvian highland wool in a worsted weight - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: This patchwork technique joins squares together as you knit. There are few seams to sew and stunning colour effects are created as you knit. Knowledge of basic knit stitch and cast on is required. Topics include… making the basic square, picking up stitches, joining squares and discussion of ideas for creating throws, rugs, bags, hats, scarves, vests & sweaters. Limit: 10 people. MOHAIR NECK WARMER Instructor(s): Schedule: Saturday, October 23rd @ Woodstock Fairgrounds - 9:30am to 12:30pm Cost: $15 (Plus a $10 materials fee paid to the instructor - pricing does not include admission to the show) Description: Create a soft, luxurious mohair neck warmer while learning tips for weaving with this “sticky” fiber. This plain weave project requires a loom with at least two harnesses and experience dressing a warp. Limit: 10 people. Supplies: Bring a LOOM (2 or 4 harness) with 12 dent reed, lease sticks, reed or sley hook, yarn needle, scissors, pen/pencil ,shuttle & bobbins, measuring tape. Picture #1 - Picture #2 |
